Texas is a state which screams big. It's one of the largest in size in the Union, contains three of the largest cities by population in the whole United States of America, and of course is known for its big talking attitude. It might surprise people who are used to Toronto Beach homes and those in other settings to learn that in fact, real estate in at least one city in this big state has a definite small town feel.
That's definitely what you will find here in Brownsville. While the city is the 15th largest in the state, it is dwarfed by its larger neighbors as well as many other cities in large population belts all over North America. If you have looked at new homes in London Ontario, then you have been to a city considered small, yet with roughly three times the population of Brownsville.
With that in mind, you can see how the Brownsville real estate picture shapes up compared to other markets. First of all, there is stock actually on the market place. In big cities such as Dallas and Toronto, condo living is all the rage. People are willing to pay a lot of money for less room, just for the convenience downtown living can bring.
Not so here in Brownsville. While you will find units as nice as any Toronto lofts or San Antonio penthouses, you won't find them at the same exorbitant prices, nor with the same abundance. Condo living in Brownsville is still limited to young renters and retirees who want to live right in town.
Another small town fact that any Mississauga realtor would automatically note about Brownsville is the average price of a home in the city. Keep in mind that Brownsville is located right on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and all the opportunities that affords. In addition, Mexico is easily accessed by those who want to visit from Brownsville, it is a matter of minutes away. And yet, the prices of homes in this warm, Oceanside city are incredibly affordable.
Most houses are listed between $150,000 and $210,000, but they also sell for much less. Sales for the fall of 2009 show that not many houses actually sold for over $100,000 in any part of Brownsville, although as you may expect homes closer to the ocean sold for slightly more than their inland counterparts.
All in all, those buying real estate with a Brownsville zip can look forward to small town living, prices, and feel while still enjoying the unique features of a good sized city.
