If you're looking for a southern Texan home with all the comforts of the small-town life, but still want to be close to the main events and attractions, then Brownsville is the place for you.

Take a cruise through the Gladys Porter Zoo where you can get a look at not only exotic animals, but plants as well. The zoo was first opened in 1971, and has been receiving a steady stream of over 400,000 visitors annually. The zoo carries approximately 1,500 animal species (47 of which are endangered) and over 250 tropical and neo-tropical species. Did you know that it was also the first zoo to have ever successfully bred the Jentink's Duiker?

If that doesn't tickle your goat, then stroll down historical downtown where you can get a view of buildings that are nearly 200 years old. There is also the Camille Lightner Playhouse, the Port of Brownsville, and the Children's Museum of Brownsville.

You can visit the many sunflower fields that are popular with those that like to hunt during the special White-winged and Mourning Dove seasons.

Hiking and biking down the Brownsville Historic Battlefield Trail is one of the many popular activities for the locals, as well as just taking a quiet stroll through the Southern Pacific Linear Park.

If you prefer more active sports, then try out one of Brownsville's 15 all-weather courts at the Brownsville Tennis Center. Here you can sign up for professional lessons and participate in competitions for both amateur and experienced players.

Or perhaps you would rather enjoy spending your afternoon in the biggest mall in Brownsville. Sunrise Mall contains over 100 stores that include four major anchor stores (Sears, JCPenney, Bealls, and Dillard's) as well as a Cinemark movie theatre and food court.
